Faux or fake teak is actually called synthetic teak by the commercial restaurant supply industry.  Synthetic teak is a non-porous composite material that looks like high quality natural teak. Synthetic teak is low maintenance, more durable, and lighter than natural teak. Synthetic teak is splinter and crack-free, as well as weather, water, and UV resistant. It is also immune to rot and insects. Synthetic teak is seen by some as a green, environmentally-friendly alternative to the harvesting of natural teak and reduction of forestry companies environmental impact on nature.

Werzalit tabletop surfaces are Melamine, one of the world's toughest plastics. Melamine is so scratch resistant that it is used in dinnerware, ashtrays and other products that must stand up to hard use and repeated scrubbing. Melamine is so hard and non-porous that even dried paint can be removed easily. It is resistant to graffiti, cigarette burns, bird droppings and all types of food stains. The surface will not harbor bacteria or mildew. Stubborn stains can be removed with household cleaners and light rubbing with 0000 steel wool.

Werzalit is a patented manufacturing process, developed by Werzalit AG & Co. of Germany. Their process combines wood, resins and melamine to produce a unique high tech composite. Werzalit produces tabletops, building products and other specialty items that must withstand the extremes of moisture, weather and surface abrasion. Werzalit of America produces a range of quality tabletops and other products in its Bradford, Pennsylvania plant.

Werzalit core material is designed to resist Immersion in water- even boiling water - wet conditions that would cause ordinary particle board to quickly disintegrate. Also, Werzalit is molded with a fused thermo set surface that resists stains, scratches and harsh use.

Choose from a number of designs and colors, or with an umbrella hole.

There are five color options in the Soho family offered by table manufacturer BFM Seating: Canyon Brown, Galaxy, Sierra Sand, Silver Mist and Grey Slate.

The round table top dimensions are 24”, 30”, 36”, 42” ad 48”. Square table top dimensions are 24”, 30”, and 36”. Two rectangle table top dimensions are available in 24 x 32” and 32” x 48”.

Can Werzalit table tops be used outside?

Werzalit is not damaged by ice, snow, or sunlight and can remain outdoors all year. Of course, protected storage in the off season will keep your furniture looking new that much longer. Unlike lacquered resin tabletops, Werzalit will not discolor if stored under plastic covers or tarpaulins.

Is Werzalit just a laminate?

No. The melamine on the Werzalit surface is chemically bonded, not glued on as with ordinary in-door laminates. Glued laminates are only as strong as the adhesive, and often can be peeled apart. Werzalit uses intense heat and pressure to chemically unite the core with the melamine surface. Since our core also uses melamine, the two components are permanently fused into a single composite structure.

Is Werzalit Safe and Durable?

Probably the safest product of its kind! It will not splinter or shatter like glass. Its hefty weight stabilizes the table. It isn't likely to tip over or blow away in a breeze like lightweight resin tops. There is no metal rim to trap bacteria and no sharp edges or protrusions that could inflict injury.
